This is not terribly important, hence the reason I did not post it in the Official Q&A, but this rule seems contradictory. It first says that glasses must be worn in the pit and alliance stations, then it says glasses are recommended in the pits.
Am I reading it wrong, or did they change some wording and not realize the mistake?
<T05> All team members, including coaches, must wear safety glasses or glasses with side shields while in the pit or alliance stations during matches. While in the pit area it is highly recommended that all team members wear safety glasses.
I believe you are reding it wrong I believe it means when you are in the driving box you must wear safety glass. If you had to were them while looking at robots that would drive me crazy.
I’m guessing they are thinking of the pits as being a subset of the “pit areas”.
While in the pits, you should be wearing your safety glasses because being in the pit implies you are near your robot, which, if loaded up with rubber bands, is a machine potentially hazardous to your eyeballs. Same when you are at a match, driving, etc.
If you are in the pit area, you might be farther from said dangerous machines, but you are still in an area that could potentially launch something at your face.
Almost all of the time when I have tension on my arm I have eye glasses on just for safety. They aren’t always like work glass that you were while your using a nail gun but they are very tough sun glasses.
This is a little off topic but I am now a senior member. eek:
I think this a case where G1 applies. Just use common sense. If you’re doing something that could be dangerous, wear them, but if you’re in the pit area and, let’s say, tightening screws on the base, it really isn’t necessary. And to be honest, I haven’t been at a single competition (except worlds, sort of) where anyone really cares, as it is after all about your safety, so the rule is really there for you and you should be the one who cares about it.
