Takeover arms

hi everyone,

I have a question, I used thick shaft with 84t gear connected to the ARM, 12t gear under the 84t gear ,the smaller gear is connected to thin shaft
motor is connected to small shaft

I tied to move arm up but it didn’t move

is it better to use two motors ?

Can you send some pictures? It is hard to decipher where the problem is occurring solely based of of the information you gave.

Your arm might be two heavy, the build quality may not be good enough, there may be a lot of friction, not enough torque or it may need some rubber bands. These are just a few possible reasons; they may not necessarily solve your problem unless you are more specific.

Also, what motor cartridge do you happen to be using and are you using cortex or V5?

Thank you for this. Your problem is most likely that you do not have enough torque. I would suggest switching to a red cartridge and it would work perfectly. You could do this or gear it up even more, but i would advise against that unless you don’t have a red cartridge.

I’m using a 9:1 with a red motor and it still isn’t enough torque for me to run it, I advise you to have a gear train with a red motor, and a 15:1 gear ratio. 60tooth high strength to 12tooth, 36tooth high strength to 12tooth gear train

I’ve seen many of these arms function very well on 7:1 ratios with red cartidges. If your arm is not lifting, it probably has something to do with build quality.

It looks like there is not a bearing on the metal supporting the shaft that powers the lift, I would add one there.

  1. unplug the shaft from your arm motor and see if the motor runs. If not there is an issue in your motor or code.
  2. unplug the shaft from your arm motor and lift your arm manually with one hand and hold close to the green 84 gear. If you can not lift easily, there is an problem of the machanic and building quality.

Thank u for replying, how i could grear it up since i dont have the red cartridge right now?

I would recommend a 15:1 compound ratio if you are using a 200 rpm motor. You could do this by having a 12 tooth gear on the motor. This gear is meshed with a 36 tooth gear. Then place a 12 tooth gear on the same axle as a 36 tooth gear, and have a 60 tooth gear meshed with that 12 tooth gear. You then attach your arm to the 60 tooth gear.

So my robot has a 7:1 gear ratio with a high strength axle and a red 100 Rpm motor cartridge. It works perfectly fine. One question I have for the teams experiencing difficulty, is that did you declare in the code that the motor is torque and not a regular cartridge. Because that was my problem, of why my arm wouldn’t lift initially.

We are able to do a 1:7 200 rpm, it is easily achievable with that ratio and speed, you just rubber band it a bit
