Hey! I’m Lucas, a mentor from team 2576A.
2015 was the first year we had an official VEX event in our country. We were awarded the Excellence award and we’re very excited and proud to represent Chile for the first time at VEX Worlds! However, as a rookie team in VEX, we made the mistake of not reserving accommodation from early on because we’re still looking for plane tickets to Kentucky.
I’m writing this post to ask for help from other teams. We’re not sure what to do in this situation, but I’m sure many of you have faced this challenge before.
Thanks in advance!
First of all, congratulations on your accomplishment! To your question- there are still spots left at Worlds, however Worlds qualifications do expire. I would probably email REC ([email protected]) about your situation. I’m not sure if you can still go, but miscommunication does happen and asking isn’t going to hurt. I hope everything works out!
Thanks! By spots left at Worlds, do you refer to hotels? Because we’re already registered in the VEX Worlds event. We’re searching for hotels.
Have you gone to the Webpage for Worlds on Robotevents? Click on the Travel Information Tab, and then click the link under hotels.
I’m sorry, I misunderstood your question. That makes things a lot simpler. Hotels fill up extremely quickly, so I’m not sure what you’re going to get at this point. This link will take you to the hotel information page for Worlds.
Congratulations!
At this point, you still have a month left; just check through every single hotel to reserve rooms. As for plane tickets, that depends on which airports you have around your area. Check each major airline and see if you can book tickets. You may have to drive to an airport that is farther away at this point. Last year, our club’s State Championships was only a month before Worlds so our teams had to get more expensive tickets–you might also have to.
Hi Lucas!
Congrats in your accomplishment! Shoot me an email ([email protected]). I might be able to find something for you.
Lucas, I did some searching and came up with hotel rooms at two very good chains. Look for “Drury Inn Louisville KY” and “Hampton Inn Louisville KY”. The hotels closest to the convention center are all booked up, but there are rooms available in their East side locations. The downside: these hotels are probably 20-25 minutes drive to the convention center. The upside: in addition to ample free parking and new buildings, they provide huge complimentary buffet style breakfasts that will sharply lower your food costs & the Drury Inn hotels even offer a simple but filling complimentary dinner. I’ve stayed at both hotel chains with my kids and absolutely recommend either without reserve. Just be sure to give a good amount of travel time to get to the convention center if you’re driving between 7am-8:30am, or 4pm-6pm.
In terms of nearby airports, you can consider Cincinnati Ohio’s airport: Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport. It’s approximately 1:45 hours away from Louisville. Also the Indianapolis Indiana airport: Indianapolis International Airport. It’s approximately 2:15 hours away from Louisville.
Let me know if you have any specific questions about Louisville. I’d be glad to get answers for you.
