Team 478's Catapult

Hello everyone

We have been working on our robot (KC II) for quite a while and with the championships just days away we decided to show our catapult design, which as far as we know is the only one of its kind.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the video and look forward to your thoughts and comments.

I like it a lot. That is a pretty solid auto run from what i saw although it does look a bit like the eight ball that got knocked off the wall when you fired was a bit lucky (does it do that consistently?).

Would you mind sharing some technical specs with us like Drive Speed, shot length for different payloads as well as the reload time for your catapult?

I really like the way that your spatula flips out when you raise the arm but i can’t seem to figure out what is going on their. It seems to be passive but i guess it could just be a hidden servo.

I really liked the rock solidness of your build last year with no “flimsy parts” like your whingers at the beginning that hit the teed balls over but i think mechanisms are almost needed to be really competitive.

I like it a lot! See you in Dallas

Thanks for the nice comment lol See ya in dallas

should i take that as a no for the sharing of tech specs?

I will let you in on some of our payloads and reload time ect. lol

Well with 1 ball we can shoot from anywhere on the field practically, with two balls we need to be in the middle somewhat too shoot them. WIth three balls we need to be almost at the wall. WIth the white ball we can shoot from over our alliance, partner, we did that in st catherines at the back and score the white ball. We can pick up the white ball also with our scoop.

P.S the things at the back, have no servo and no motor controlling it

No you didnt, my computer forze and i was going to post right after it like i did now lol

Looking good, but I’m baffled to see that a robot of those dimensions has such limited capacity. But no insult, our robot isn’t even working yet :stuck_out_tongue:

See you at worlds!

The thing is, with the limited capacity of shooting, we could do 4 if wanted, were faster when we do 2 at a time.

I have a similar whinger setup that also uses no motors or servos. At first this season i went for more of a rock solid, bowling ball drop tested robot but i quickly realized that in order to really compete with the more elite robots i would have to really push the limits of the system and make “sketchy” mechanisms that would shoot out to score a few points and everything. I am still a huge fan of the more rock solid robots for instance elevation’s 478, 44, 148, 254, 39 and quite a few others but i think the sketchy mechanisms will score points and end up being HUGE especially this year.

I will have to take a closer look at this thing in Dallas.

Feel free to come visit our pit

Hi Stephen,
I enjoyed seeing your team’s robot and autonomous program on Youtube. Looks great (as usual). Safe travels and see you soon.
Bill

Thank you for the kind words about our robot. We were able to get a glance at your robot too on youtube. Your guys look awesome as well. Good luck and hope to play with u in Dallas. P.s You guys staying at the Hyatt again this year?

The Hyatt it is. See you soon.

Well done. Any more vids?

how fast can this guy reload? also, do you have problems with the loading and scoring being only 90 degrees apart, instead of 180?
