Teams?

I was just curious as to A) how many people you have on your FTC/VEX team B) what their jobs are (programmer, builder, driver) and C) how many hours a week for how many weeks does your team work on their robot? Thanks!

A) 6 or 7 people on each team… only a few are dedicated though.

B) Everyone builds, 2 program and, of course, 2 drivers.

C) On average, we probably work 7 hours a week for the whole season.

Yup, that is right, us being the dedicated ones.

A) 5 members (1 dedicated engineering, 1 engineer / programmer, 1 programmer, 2 drivers)

B) Everyone builds, but primarily the two people who enjoy the mechanical stuff do the bulk of designing (after ideas are tossed around for hours…its a long process sometimes :p)

C) Averaging about 7-8 hours a week during school weeks

Our team has sort of dedicated “roles” but at the same time everyone does a little bit of everything else (E.g. 2 “engineers”, but everyone designs and builds)

We have about 4 people on a team. We had 5-6 last year, and there was too much horsing around so I decided to cut back this year, and we have 4. Their positions are as follows, obviously 2 will be drivers. And everyone gets a chance to drive.

  1. Leader/Builder/Programmer
  2. Co-Leader/Builder
  3. Builder
  4. Builder

Our FRC mentor is also our mentor. A great guy.

And, compared to what you guys put, this is gonna sound a little bit extreme, but I (The leader, and probably the most dedicated) put in about 21 hours a week…

yeah…21 hours…twenty-one hours. This up coming season, we may cut back, but it really depends.

Yeah, I’ve been there. Especially when the team is busy with stuff and I’m the only one who works :p.

Last year, we had 7 members: 4.5 builders, 2.5 programmers. On competition day, we have 5 drivers and 2 student coaches (taking turns through various matches). We have one head scout and one pit crew head – the rest assist when they’re not on the field. We rotate through drivers & coaches in qualifying matches and put our 2 “best” drivers and coach in all the elimination matches.

We meet once/week for 2.5 hours at school, except the last week or 2, where we spend about 10 hours/week at my house. We also attend scrimmages if they’re available, since we don’t have a field.

Last year we had seven members, without any real roles. Some people gravitated to certain jobs more than others, but everyone got to do some of everything.

Competitions, we had slightly more defined roles, with girls in charge of scouting, pit crew, publicity, etc. It worked out pretty well.

This year, it looks like we’re going to hit our ten-member limit pretty quickly, so we’ll see how that goes. Seven worked out well mostly because it was difficult for everyone to come to every meeting, so we always had at least three or four people working on any given day.

As for meeting time, 2 days a week for 3-4 hours each worked pretty well. Unless it’s the week before competition. Then we meet for 4-5 hours every day, minimum.
