Texas kicked off the season with the Houston VEX Kickoff this past weekend.
2158Z - Austin Cans came with a fully functional robot scoring skyrise sections and cubes on the highest level. The Robot skills score of 19 was far short of this robot’s potential. The Austin Cans had a great season last year, and skyrise will be no different.
1429A - was ready to go with programming skills with a 11 point score.
I highly recommend these premier events put on by our veteran Event partners.
Oct 11th - Galena Park VEX (hosted by 1429 - Kaos)
Oct 25th - Conroe VEX (hosted by 1477 - Texas Torque)
Nov 22nd - Space City VEX (hosted by 118 - Robonauts)
Last year it was an epic battle, and the Killeen staff put on an awesome event. Sorry we couldn’t make the Houston kick-off – we’re still working on Floyd III’s anti-gravity lift…

Could you take a look at some of the rather interesting global skills ranking ties? For example robot skills T-12 place has 6 teams with scores of 28,28,27,27,26,26 which doesn’t compute
A lot of great information shared to all the new teams through the workshops that were presented by Andrew L!
The programming workshop was very informative.
Well, the Killeen, TX Skyrise competition on Oct. 4 has been cancelled, apparently due to not enough sign-ups. So we want to encourage teams from Texas and the surrounding areas to sign-up for the Monroe, LA Vex Skyrise competition. The top three robots in the competition will receive a FREE robot kit!
Wow! That’s one of the best prizes i’ve seen at a robot event yet. And the entry fee isn’ t too high either. I don’t know if our team can attend but it sounds really neat
A big Texas thank you to all the volunteers that helped make this event a success, especially Mr. Medina for all his hard work in bringing the fields and audio/video equipment! Well deserved Volunteer of the Year!
And thanks to Andrew Lynch for getting the Tournament Manager working!
Thank you to Team 3847 - Spectrum for hosting the HISD West Competition. The HISD events have come a long way and its great to see many new robotic teams joining in the Houston ISD district.
