Unfortunately AURA (Auckland University) and AMESS (Massey University Albany) have had to bow out this year as the timing of the event was just too wrong for them being in the middle of a very important time of year for them. They hope to be able to make it in the future if the dates work out better.
I can’t wait to meet you all, please come by my pit at “1961 C” I would love to meet you all, and see your robots. Travel safe you guys. See everyone in LA.
I look forward to meeting all of the 12 teams from New Zealand !
Last year Oats stepped up big with a division win ! They are showing their dominance this year with three teams !
Free Range has the most historical success out of all the New Zealand teams, its good to see them back in the mix again
It will be neat to meet up with Lynfield again, the DiscoBots enjoyed working with you guys and Green Egg last year
THat’s a big shock, no AMESS or AURA ! New Zealand has had a great showing at the College championship since the inception. Hopefully FEAR can keep up the track record.
Hi Paul,
Don’t need to be subtle… just drop by 8059’s pits and take a look at our much improved version of the scooper-bot
Who knows, we might get the chance to work together again during the World
As much as we would have liked to be at the World Champs this year, we had to assess our priorities.
We all have degrees to work towards and unfortunately the World Champs are during/at the end of a busy assessment week for all of us (because it’s the last week before a mid-semester break).
We don’t just do VEX - we have team members working on research projects (watch this space), we try to get out there and do volunteering and mentoring, and we do educational events every once in awhile. All of that adds up to a lot of time.
On top of that, it costs around NZD$3500 (roughly USD$3000) per person to get to the World Champs, and a lot of us have already been many times, so financially it’s a bit of a strain.
We’re wishing all the teams good luck, and we’ll be watching the competition via the magic of the interwebs! Hopefully we’ll be back next year!
P.S. We have faith in the FEAR team - they have a strong experience base, including members who have graduated from World Champion and Division Champion teams.
Invitation accepted
Lucas and I were discussing ways in which the scooper bot could possibly be improved from what we saw at APAC. Will be awesome to see what you guys have done.
Good luck (you guys are due an easier schedule after what you faced at APAC!), Paul

We did quite a fair bit of improvement… bigger capacity scoop, more effective dumping, added in descoring and rescoring ability and scoring high goal as well.
To be honest, we actually built a 2941a-2915a-hybrid-lookalike, and it has turned out to be one of our team’s epic failures at all times.
So the Singapore teams have decided that we are better in building scooper bot… we will leave the roller intakes to the NZ teams

I am a bit surprise that there are teams (or at least you) that notice the Singapore teams. We are normally flying below the radar.
But as usual, we will be competitive… hey… 8059 had made it to the division SF for Worlds since 2010
We are quietly confident that we can make it further this year.
Back to the topic… what I like about this season game is really the variety of robots that we will be seeing.
As you mentioned… Singapore - flipper/scooper bots… NZ - roller intake (ok… 7682 is a 2-tier bot)… and don’t forget about China’s scissor-lift. They are very effective.
As for US, you guys have all the different variations… plus… your trough-cappers and wallbots
K-Force wishes the rest of the NZ teams a safe flight on Saturday. We won’t be joining you in Anaheim until Sunday as we have school production commitments on Saturday evening.
Big thank you to Chris for all the work behind the scenes he has done for all the Kiwis.
Looking forward to meeting everyone at Worlds.
