Time it took for shift transmission?

we’re considering doing a shift transmission for the chassis (speedy race for mogos, torque in tug of wars and platting), but we havent made any before so we’re wondering how much time it took for it to get it working/if we can get it working before worlds
Ive watched a lot of videos on its design and what needs to happen like beveling gears and how to set them up, but i havent seen anything about how much time it actually took to physically build and trouble shoot any transmission issues

As per building of any gadget, it all depends on how experience the team.
but drive transmission is not as straightforward.

The easiest form of implementation will be using pneumatic to do the shifting.
But this will mean there is a need to redesign and see how to pack in all the additional stuff.
And this will also mean that most likely you will need to rebuild the entire robot? Or at least most of it?

An old transmission design that is pretty easy to understand how it works:

A good implementation on a competitive robot:

Note: transmissions are super hard to figure out with V5 due to space constraints alongside how easy it is for transmission components to snap. But I won’t say don’t go for it as testing different things out is the design and lifestyle of VEX. Good luck

our team is using transmission systems now, but that took 1 month to build it. There are so many potential issues, so I don’t think this is a good time to start.

yeah, we’re gonna be rebuilding the chassis and other stuff either way and managed to find good pneumatic tranmission designs so i think we’re gonna try it

Thank you so much , i’ve seen the first video but the second i havent and it’s a really good design. some of my teammates were worried it’d take too long but i think i understand the design ehre and thoguht it was worth it so we decided to do it or if it doenst work out we’d just revert it, also yeah, totally down for testing cool stuff out

What kind of issues did you get?

Also, to anyone else considering transmissions, vex discord suggested CADing it beforehand and it really did help with figuring out spacing so far

It took about a week and a half for us to build our transmission. However we had to mutilate a few gears and troubleshooting took another week. We also rebuilt our whole robot around the transmission. As for tips, lubrication is a life saver and don’t over think it.

will keep in mind, thank you

entire thing probably took me 2 days to design and around a week to build / manufacture
