I’m getting the general idea that the extension is supposed to replace V5 Pro, which is totally fine, but I just have a few questions about the VSCode extension:
Is development currently transitioning to the extension rather than V5 Pro, or has that transition already been made and all efforts are going into the extension?
Are there plans to deprecate V5 Pro in the future?
What is the timeline for public release? The extension has been on version 0.x.x for a hot minute now. If the meal’s ready, can we dig in?
The VSC extension is advertised as open source software. But it’s not and hasn’t been for a long time. When might it become so?
Are there any data on usage for V5 PRO and VSC? Are vastly more users using one than the other, and, if so, which one?
To be clear, I do not have any skin in this game personally, and I’m not trying to put down any software engineers; I just want to know which flavor of Vexcode to pander to now and in the future. Thanks for answering.
So the VEX Extension will eventually replace V5 Pro, but V5 Pro will still be available download through the VEX website.
So the plan is to have the 1.0.0 release happen later this year, at that point in time, I will post the source. In the mean time, I will continue to add enhancements up until 1.0.0 release.
This sounds great. I’m excited for the official release.
To add onto Josh’s questions, what can be said about the vexcom utility? Will there be documentation made for how to use it? Will it also become open source?
