Tiny Rachet help

we need a tiny ratcheting mech, and ive watched this video

but i cant figure it out, and i need help. does anyone have any suggestions for 36t to 12 t gear ratcheting mech

that mechanism just pushes a screw hear into the gear, because one side of the screw is rounded and the other is flat, it can spin one way and not the other. there are other videos on that type of ratcheting mechanism, here is a good video on a similar ratcheting mechanism that does a good job at showing the concepts behind it

I understand how rachets work. I’m having trouble making one small enough for a 36 tooth gear to a 12 tooth gear.

I would highly suggest looking at Kepler electronics video on ratchets. Or constructing something like this, just with rubber bands pulling the bolt towards the gear.

If I’m not mistaken, @7996B’s second video demonstrates a technique that could be mounted on the 36 tooth gear and would ratchet a 12 tooth. You would need an extra gear in there (or two if you want the rotation to remain the same) to connect to the 12 tooth, but this mechanism could remain fairly small if you build a stacked gear train.

Working on a next gen ratchet… is there a ball bearing, or any type of sphere, in vrc-legal equipment? Possible as a component that could be scavenged/disassembled?

@turbodog Although quite small, it should be possible to scavenge some ball bearings from the newly-released VRC bearing. They would be completed covered in grease though, are rather small, and are quite expensive.

All the ratchet made are ‘clicky’ type. They make noise and have friction when turned in reverse. I’m looking at a ramping roller type that would be silent and have essentially no friction.
