Tips For Next Year

This was my first year of robotics and I really enjoyed it a lot. Everyone is really supportive and has very good sportsmanship, and I’ll be doing it again next year. I currently don’t have a team for next year yet since the other two member who were with me aren’t going to do it again next year, but was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to prepare for the next comp. When I get the team problem sorted out, should we begin building early once the game’s details are revealed? Thank you!

Strategize! By inspecting the game manual, making models/cads, and researching how other teams are approaching the game. This is how I stumbled upon the early season meta, and what I forged my strategy around.

Once you meet your team, compare strategize and ideas with each other, and find which idea or which combination of ideas will work for your team. Making cads/prototypes for the game once it comes out can shape the way your bot will work and compare ideas further. Remember, communication is key, and any strategy can work, as long as you and your future team work hard to make it viable. Who knows, you may even build a bot that other teams want take ideas from, that eventually becomes the meta!

It’s great you’re enjoying robotics, and best of luck to your second year in the program :+1:

Watch the World’s streams and see what they are doing that makes them good. See if you could improve your current robot with strategies and building techniques on those robots. Make sure for next year, you use a 6-motor drive train.

Make sure to take your notebook seriously. Also, if you can, CAD your robot. Also, auton is very important. Try to have a dedicated programmer.
