hi all. This year I’m going to start v5. Any tips? Experience is won sg nationals + excellence award; nothing at worlds
If you have experience with vex iq, then vex v5 will be a small transition. The main differences are the new metal parts and screws instead of pins. There are also different sized gears and sprockets. Be prepared to compete head-to-head angainst another two teams in each qual match. Good luck!
P.S. there is also a 15 sec auton period and a 1:45 driver control.
Is this your first year doing v5? If so I would recommend looking a lots of youtube videos to learn basic building techniques like boxing, screw joints, ect ( You can find lots of tips on the Kepler Electronics youtube channel or on @9MotorGang youtube.) and would also recommend learning cad using software like onshape, or if you really want to learn an easy software protobot.
bro just come to the HS lab, you can inquire all you want about the program there im sure mrs patty has taught you well
@Semonater470 I’ve just transitioned from IQ to V5 as well. I think the biggest difference is the amount of time it takes to build things. It took me ~4 hours just to build half of a drivetrain. If you can lear CAD, then that will make some of the building take less time.
Also, you will want to use at least 44 watts of power for your drivetrain, peferrably 66 watts.
Finally, match strategy is completely different than IQ. You’ll need to pay atention to 3 robots instead of only 1. I would watch previous livestreams of events like worlds or the speedway signature event, these had amazing teams and matches.
Overall, I think the transition between the two programs is not easy, but you’ll find you know enough basic mechanics with IQ that you’ll understand how to build them in V5.
(Also, the V5 motors are about 6x as strong as the IQ motors.)
