Torque or Speed Ratio Mecanum Drive

It wasn’t even viable when 44 made them. They did it as an experiment.

What even is this thread. Just use direct driven 200rpm and call it a day.

fake mecanums aren’t even thinner

they’re also way worse

just use direct x-drive or direct mecanums if you reallly can’t manage an x-drive
Or just use tank drive, It’s good enough

Pretty sure refs/other teams will be more impressed with a robot that can effectively score than how you were able to fit a mecanum drive in 5 holes.

I’m sure you could make ones that work better considering normal vex wheels have a lot ton of slop and CNC machines are very precise.

They are skinnier because it’s 2.5 inch wide ish and you don’t have rollers sticking out the side. Unless you have some kind of proof they don’t work also they worked in the video

I was talking about doing a 3 hole wide mecanum drive.

They’re gonna be way worse than real mecanums

It’s just not worth it

Why would you put in the effort? No chance it’s even possible in VRC and its not even worth the effort in VEX U either. What do you even mean by “slop”. If you direct drive it’s nowhere near an issue.

I do think it’s possible and by slop I meant it doesn’t hold onto the axle perfectly (Can be fixed with lock bar). It is very hard to make but I do think it could be done. Also a bot at worlds had it (Team 44's Custom Mecanum Wheels)

I don’t think custom mecanums are going to be superior to the vex ones, but I do think if you pour a lot of work into them they could be decent. but they’re just not worth it imo. if you want to strafe and don’t want to use vex’s mecanums just use an x drive tbh.

44 never competed with those mecanum wheels. It may be possible but nobody has made actual viable mecanums legal for HS and I doubt anyone ever will.

@owen169 @djavaisadog yeah you two are right. I said somewhat viable because I expected people to have potentially worked on a design since then, but even then they’d most likely be significantly worse than vex ones. My post was more to point out the fact that people have made custom diameter wheels before than to prove whether or not they were viable. I’ll just edit the wording of the other post

rlly hoping 7k or Pilons hop onto this post
