Hello, I’m thinking of changing my current lift system to a 4 bar or 6 bar lift. The problem is that I don’t have any 1x5 c channels. Is there any drawbacks to using the less wide c channels for the structure of my tower? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I’m on my phone so posting photos is difficult, but check out the website in my signature. The entries for 127C have a ton of things on how we built a 4-bar arm on those smaller C-Channels. If that isn’t enough, there’s a link to our imbue album on the main page of the website in the bottom left corner with some more photos that aren’t on the website.
The 4-Bar Arm design is absolutely workable for Toss Up.
Ok, if my chassis is an inch off the ground on the bottom and it is around 3 inches at the top. Where should i mount the tower to? and what size metal would be best to stay around 11ish inches?
You should mount the tower towards the outside of the bot for greater stability, where specifically is for you to engineer . I’m not sure what you mean by metal length, you’ll likely be cutting a 2-wide c-channel that fits the dimensions you set (11")
Greater stability? Please elaborate, because I’m pretty sure this isn’t true but I want to give you the benefit of the doubt.
 I don’t really know what I was thinking :o, I really meant you want to mount the towers on the outside to get you greater room on the inside of the lift (where you’ll likely be mounting scoring mechanism and things. Really botched that post
No problem, I was like three seconds away from flaming you badly, and I was like… wait. He’s better than that. Let’s be all nice and see what happens. XD
See guys, see I’m trying!
And I was going to flame you in the bumper switch/auton thread for having an array that’s one element short, figured that Liam would find that on his own Must be this west coast weather making us all feel good today.
I wish the Midwest was having as good weather as you claim it to be. It’s rainy and quite dreary here…
Oh wow, I forgot arrays index at the number of elements not the last index. You got me, I should probably go fix that.
But that wasn’t the point now was it?
I tend to use the thinner c channel on lift towers almost exclusively and have even got away with using steal chassis-rails. I also tend to have a single arm going between the two towers but this is just a strange (he admits it!) personal preference.
Also, JPearman is not pulling anyone’s legs concerning the weather. it hit 80F here in the bay area
