Triball Bounce

My team uses a catapult and our triballs are bouncing on the floor when the land a lot, any ideas on how to fix this?

It kinda does that…

Compare yours to a video of someone else match loading on youtube.

You could try to decrease the power of the catapult or lower the trajectory of the tri ball.

This exactly. During a skills run you’re going to want your shots to be lower and with less power so your grouping is more accurate, however this has the caveat of making triballs less likely to accurately make it over the barrier, and makes them really easy to block during a match. To counter this my team’s puncher has two configurations, one that shoots low for skills, and one that shoots higher for matches. During a match it matters less if the triball bounces around as long as it makes it over the barrier.

Alright so we took your advice and while its better they are still bouncing on top of the goal, it works once we stack up enough balls but maybe its the tension? the only issues is when we lower the tension by one band it doesn’t go over the ball. Any ideas?

we use a rubber banding system that we can finely adjust the tension by wrapping the end of the rubber band until we have the desired tension.

my team uses rubber bands on our catapult, and depending on the tension from the bands, the arc of the triball is higher or lower. hope this helps!

Adjust catapult tension or add shock-absorbing material underneath.

Thanks, we got a triballs to have 42 in the middle and 3 on the sides, unfortunately it was too late for the comp but we run it back in January

ok this is actually a problem my team had to deal with what we did is that we put some gussets on the top of the catapult bucket so that it will redirect the triball so that it will launch further rather than higher which should fix your bouncing problem. The reason you would want to add these or anything that works the same is because whenever your catapult doesn’t have some kind of redirector the triball gets launched upwards do to nothing keeping it down, and some kind of angle piece will make the triball move along the surface of it. If that doesn’t work make the launching point of your robot go up in increments of 5 degrees. For example if it launched at a 45 degree angle bring it up to 50 and so forth. I hope this information works for you.
