Since the goal a team is meant to score into is in their offensive zone, and while scoring gives 5 points and having a tri-ball in the offensive zone gives 2, does this mean that scoring actually gives 7 (as a tri-ball would both be in the goal and in the zone)
This question has been asked in the Q&A and we are still currently awaiting an answer. When the GDC has responded you will be able to find their response here, SC3; SC4: Are triballs legally scored in the goal also scored as being in the offensive zone : Robot Events
Check the Q&A - this has been raised and likely to be clarified either in the Official Q&A or next update of Game Manual in a couple of weeks.
As it stands in the rules, you’re technically correct; however, the official calculator only gives 5 points. This is because there is believed to be a typo. A Q&A question has been asked about this, so the GDC will either fix the alleged typo or fix the calculator. I would recommend assuming that it should only be worth 5 points until an official answer is released.
This is a legitimate question which has been asked thru the official and public channel - the Robot Events Q&A. SC3; SC4: Are triballs legally scored in the goal also scored as being in the offensive zone : Robot Events
My take: As written, triballs in the goal count for 7 points, though I believe (based on the scoring app) the GDC intended for them to be worth 5. My suspicion is that the GDC will clarify Q&A 1509 by stating that a Triball may score a maximum of only 2 or 5 points.
The Q&A has been answered and the GDC have clarified that it is worth 5 points
a Triball that is considered Scored in a Goal is not also considered Scored in that Goal’s Offensive Zone.
