I have a robot that keeps stalking out its motors after about of 45 seconds of use, letting it rest for a few seconds will usually enable it to keep operating but it has tripped and completely reset the cortex a few times. I’m running 11 motors (4drive, 6lift, and 1claw) on already two power expanders and three batteries. The motors are split evenly 6 on ports 1-5 and 5 on ports 6-10. To me having two power expanders seems like it should be more than enough to handle 11 motors without tripping a circuit. Mabye i’m wrong and just have to add more power expanders but that dosn’t seem right. Help?
Your battery connection(s) is/are probably just coming loose. Try securing your batteries such that their wires are completely slack when connected.
I am assuming you are not using this in competition since more than one power expander is against the rules. If this is just a fun pet project, I am guessing you are overworking the motors.
Definitely not a weight issue, unless you are running them in some other internal gear config than torque. To be honest, it could be a battery or cortex issue. And you do NOT need 2 power expanders.
are the motors on your drive base HS or torque or Turbo?
You need to swap out two of those solid wheels for omniwheels. Tank-turning with the standard wheels is VERY hard, and practically guaranteed to trigger the PTC motor protection. (This was the downfall of a lot of robots back in 2006-7 before we discovered that VEX made omniwheels.)
