Turning Point Anonymous Strategies

Hey everyone! I am wondering what you’r thinking of doing for the anonymous section of TP. For reference, I have attached the initial setup configuration of the game. I hope to start a strategy discussion about this. Thanks!

Not sure how this would pertain to the majority of people on the forum since I’m doing Vex u, but my idea would be to have one robot (shooting one) drive forward, shoot at the top two flags and drive into the bottom one, then pick up the balls from the parking tile, and do the same for the middle flags. And probably have a lifting one place the back two caps on pipes.

I think the first thing to do would be to descore the two red scored caps on your side (blue) because it’s a point swing of two each or 3 each if you put them on the poles. After that I’d go for the high flags on your side and then in the middle of the field, finally, I’d go for the low flags on your side and in the middle. This scores at least 14 points, and up to 21 if your opponent doesn’t do anything. If time permits, or if your less consistent with flags, you could score the other two caps for another 3 points before moving to flags. My biggest concern is how to intake balls reliably when they start on top of the caps.

In response to your concern, I think the best way to do this would be to utilize the preload, hit the middle or top flag, and then move towards the low flag. I agree that de-scoring the 2 red cones is probably good. One thing I am wondering however, is that unlike ITZ, TP is not horizontally symmetrical. This means that there is a high chance of your anonymous interfering with another. Thus, I am wondering if it is a good idea to program 2 anonymous programs. One that focuses on the bottom corner, and one that focuses on the top corner. What are your thoughts?

I was thinking that that sounded like a lot, but then I remembered your autonomous is 45 seconds… nice idea!

I think that having two programs will likely be necessary, one that focuses on the caps (for the tile that is in the expansion zone) and one to focus on flags (for the tile that isn’t). The problem with this is that the balls start on caps and on the platforms and trying to get to either of those places would almost definitely interrupt a partner auton so it would be difficult to focus on flags for auton. Maybe, on the tile closest to the flags, you would shoot a high flag with the preload, turn a low flag, and then go for the cap closest to that side to put it on the tall pole, while the other robot gets the first two caps on the first two poles and the third one on the ground.
