TVEX 9090C post VWC update_Math Division

In 2012-2013 season, we built a solid robot with successful scissor lift. In the World Competition, we did not experience any significant malfunction problems. In the quarter final, we defeated the 2nd seed, National Championship 12A and its allies and advanced to Semifinal.

We would like to thank our allies 404A and 8227B here.

Robot Specification:

6 motor drive gear ratio 1:1.6
1 motor oval roller intake, gear ratio: 1.875:1
1 motor conveyor belt, gear ratio 3:1
2 motor Scissor lift, Gear Ratio: 21:1 .
Up to 15 sacks
Descore and rescore on both high goal and trough.

MATH division!!!

Would you mind posting a pic of the base of the scissor when extended and a pic of the actuating mechanism for the lift.

thanks : )

I was surprised how few scissor lifts were at World championship. Usually the asian teams all have some combination of scissor lifts.

Congrats to 9090 T-VEX for attempting a difficult scissor design.

Also, bravo for moving on to another division semi-finals. I think T-VEX is primed for a division win in the near future.

I’m not sure if there were less this year per say, but the Chinese scissor lifts were definitely concentrated in the Middle School divisions this year. I think in the Finals matches there were three 8192 teams that had similar wrist-shovel scissor lift designs.

Here are some pic for gear configuration and base:

Thanks, Lyncas.

I wished you would bring back a trophy. If you guys picked us for your ally, we would definitely not disappoint you like stalling in the battle field:)

I hope we have chance to cooperate next time.

Thanks for the pictures it helped a lot. Why did you use the latex tubing instead of rubber bands out of curiosity?

Latex is stronger, but more expensive.

Keep in mind all the metal we used makes for a rather heavy robot…

Also because the distance between the sides of the scissor meant that the elastics would have to be stretched quite a bit, in the end using latex tubing was much easier. Additionally, we usually use latex tubing instead of rubber bands, though I do not remember our original reasons for doing so.

Thanks! You guys did great, thanks for dropping by at worlds.
Such predictions, I shall endeavor not to disappoint in the next couple seasons.

Cool. thanks for answering the questions!

I have a couple of questions about your robot:

  1. How tall is it when it is fully compressed and extended (from the top)?
  2. What is the reason for using 2 linear sliders on each side as apposed to one?
  3. Are those 2x35 c-channels cut in half?
  4. How fast can it lift?
  5. How stable is it when it is fully extended?

I am looking to make something like this for a class project and was wondering what you would change, if anything, to make this better

14 to 40 inches

More stable bottom

Yes

Depends on gear ratio. We used 21:1 ratio to lift more sacks

Very, very stable.

I could talk for days about how stable it is and describe the speed…but a video would work much better than words- https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4gphpJJhHwiekZQbTVhSGdYYkk/edit?usp=sharing

Sorry that it’s on Google drive, but I don’t want to wait for it to upload to Youtube.

Quarterfinals 1 in Math. Autonomous screwed up terribly for some reason…

Like it was said above, the gear ratio was 21:1, but we probably could have left it at 15:1. With the 7:1 version we had around December, it was around 1.5 seconds from 0-high goal. It does take a while to get to high goal height, but from 0-trough height it isn’t bad.

Could be more stable, but that would mean adding more metal.

May I ask how the top part of the scissors slide? I examined the pictures over and over again and I can’t find the slider D:

Come on now, that’s not really fair.

There’s a slider… See second from last pic. It’s under a C-channel.

You are right

Wow, that one was below the belt!

Woah…
Don’t know where that came from. But sorry about that guys.

As well as we did and as much as I like our design, there is no way we would be able to compete nearly as well in the elimination matches as 2941, and no way I would be able to justify picking us over them.

If the Discobots had picked us as their ally, realistically we most likely wouldn’t have made it as far as they did.

Again, sorry about that Lucas, i’m sure he didn’t mean it that way…

By the way, you guy’s had an awesome robot. Somehow I expect it to merge with your Gateway robot to come back as a crazy good Toss Up robot.
