Types of Linear Movement Mechanisms

What are the different mechanisms that allow linear movement(such as VEX linear rails)?

They system doesn’t need to be powered just slide linearly.

Most people use four bars or double reverse four bars.

4 bars aren’t linear


The most common form is a elevator lift, also called a linear lift and a cascade lift. The basic principle is connecting your chain to your lift stages so that the stages move up and down with the chain. Here’s a great example from @jpearman:
