So I’ve been working on it, just to kinda see if it’s that possible, and I’m wondering what y’all are working on…
My question is this: Has anyone high-hung? Are there any college teams working on high-hanging???
Just trying to see what y’alls approach is… Give me a month (after the competition) and maybe another month and a half (Worlds) and I might have some videos available… Otherwise, just come to a competition to see it…
the robots hang was similar to our A and B team’s hang
(which was unused during competition because the pts:time ratio was too low)
the reason the C team was able to reach UHH was because of the small chassis and lightweight and the ability to ONLY hang
maybe i should keep the pic a secret just to keep you guys on your toes
or maybe i lost it
ill take a look around
Yes, I have been high hanging since October. I went for the fast tube scorer + fast high hanger approach. In my last competition (November 21) I hung at the end of virtually every match that I played in, taking about 15 seconds on average to accomplish the hang. Since then I have made some important modifications. At this point I can reliably high hang in roughly 7 seconds. This leaves me almost the entire match to score/descore tubes.
It seems to me that the best hanging bots will have to fully integrate the hanging mechanism with the tube scoring mechanism on there robots. This usually means that a team must decide if/how they will accomplish the hang early on in the planning process.
****! 7 secs is quite fast
cant wait to see your robot at worlds
and better yet, your programming skills!
if we were against each other in a match, you better expect intense defence from us!
I can definitely agree with that. My team is working on doing that now. Right now, we can hang in about 15 seconds using one high strength motor geared up (this time does not include positioning which shouldn’t take that long). If you want to see a video of the hang go to the post: New type of high hang? . That video is a right after the East Brunswick qualifier in which we hung consistently. Also, in the video the bot is kind of beat up, so its moving kind of slow when positioning and raising the claw to full height :(.
Just a word to the wise - If two or more robots are competing over the small space at the top of the ladder, one might easily fall off due to ordinary (legal) pushing and shoving.
I would hate to see a robot end a match as a hunk of twisted metal because it fell during a UHH attempt. Think carefully about how your designs will fare when they encounter competing bots near the top of the ladder. If your hanging method is easily dislodged or broken by contact with a second robot, figure out how to make it less vulnerable/fragile.
Many videos show side hang only. There are only 2 sides.
If you make your robot capable of both side and rung hanging, you’ll have more choices for hanging locations.
If there are 4 UHH robots, the air space may get clogged as well.
That would be a sight to see.
Someone should find four teams that can to UHH and stage a picture on the practice field, and then ask for stage time to do a demo.
sorry for the late reply, but i just recently downloaded the pics off our teachers camera
this was in novebmer when all of our robots can hang
but now none of us can because it was too slow and the point swing was not worth it
enjoy http://i.min.us/jefbq6.jpg
btw the UHH robot had a winch attached to it the next day
I’m just wondering: what will happen if all four robots go to hang?
At the competition I just attended, two of the three robots my team had there were hanging… There was a lot of defense being played, and I know we did have quite a bit of entanglement… (lifting another robot off the floor!)
My question is this: does anyone have ideas on how to keep something like this from happening? Any way to make sure someone can’t knock you off your perch?
Also, what’s the legality of “de-hanging” someone? Is it legal to remove someone from the ladder?
The bottom left robot designed their robot to hang INSIDE the ladder for that very reason
Nobody wants their robot smashed
Glad to see it up on the official Q+A
