Using any sort of “autonomous” feature in driver control is perfectly legal. It is also very feasible. Ultrasonic Range Finders work in a fairly straight line , sending out high frequency sounds and measuring the time they take to bounce back. You may struggle to detect bases however, as their curve causes the rebounding sound to spread, sometimes resulting in poor measurements.
