Update needed Gyro Port 4

At the worlds we had a problem with the Gyro sensor… during one of the programming skills the gyro just went crazy, it kept turning and didn’t detect any turning. When we stopped the program it said Port 4 Gyro needs update.

We already had the latest VEX IQ Firmware, the Gyro just lost the firmware update. We attached the brain to the laptop and updated it again, but it was not a new version cause laptop was never connected to WiFi at world event + I had already updated firmware with the latest update, so I’m 100% sure that the Gyro just lost the firmware.

This had happened to us previously a couple of weeks before the worlds, but since my laptop was connected to the WiFi at home I thought it was cause there was an update to the Gyro, now I know that it is that the Gyro looses firmware from time to time.

I had to update my firmware for the Gyro on Saturday as well. Was this a genuine firmware update or an issue with the gyro?


There have been no updates to the Gyro firmware since last fall. We are currently investigating what might cause this to happen.

I’ll have to check out my Gyro as well and see if this is an issue. So far mine has worked alright, but I haven’t used it for a while.

OK, cool. Mine still seems to be working OK after the mystery update at the weekend although is only detected by the brain ~50% of the time.
