Updating Firmware

Hi,

I was wondering if updating my firmware was mandatory for competing in the 2012 World Championship because I am quite comfortable using robotC 3.04 and the old firmware that accompanies it. I am a bit hesitant to upgrade because I have never had any green VexNet problems on 3.04.
