I am trying to connect my vexiq brain to my computer and it does not recognize it. I have uninstalled all software and reinstalled firmware update software where it does ask to install needed windows drivers. I have admin rights and let it install but still can’t get my computer to recognize it…note cable works on other devices so I know both cable and USB port at ok. I also disabled antivirus and tried that. Any ideas? This is a windows 10 computer.
Hi ashandtony,
We’re sorry that you have encountered this issue. To help isolate what is causing this problem, please connect your Robot Brain to your computer via the USB cable, and turn on the Robot Brain (it must have a Robot Battery installed).
On Windows 7+, when in the Start menu, start typing “Device Manager”, then double click on the program when it comes up in the search results. In Device Manager, please scroll down to the “Ports (COM & LPT)” section, and click the expand this group. When the VEX IQ Robot Brain drivers are correctly installed, it will show up here as “VEX USB serial port (COM#)”, where the # will be in between about 1 and 20. The COM# will be different on each computer.
If you do not see “VEX USB serial port”, please turn off and on your Robot Brain. Did anything disappear and reappear from this Ports (COM & LPT) list? if so, then Windows installed the incorrect driver for the VEX IQ Robot Brain. This can happen if you plug in your Robot Brain in to your computer before installing the VEX IQ driver - Windows will attempt to recognize the device and may install a generic USB serial driver that is not compatible with VEX IQ.
To resolve this situation, please disconnect the VEX IQ Robot Brain from your computer, and uninstall the VEX IQ Firmware Update Utility and VEX IQ drivers from your computer. Please launch the VEX IQ Firmware Update Utility installer, and reinstall the program and the driver. It is VERY important that you do not connect the Robot Brain to your computer until after the VEX IQ driver is fully installed. After the installation is complete, close out of the installer and do not launch the Firmware Update Utility yet. Now connect the Robot Brain to your computer via USB, and turn it on. Windows will recognize that a new device has been plugged in, and will begin to setup the VEX IQ driver. Once this is complete, a balloon popup will appear near the system tray in the bottom right corner of the screen that will notify that Windows has configured the driver and the device is ready to use.
You should now be able to launch the VEX IQ Firmware Update utility, as well as see the Robot Brain as a “VEX USB serial port” in the Device Manager.
