USB help

We started programming the v5 brain a week ago and everything was fine. Recently, when we go to plug in the USB to a laptop it will say drive power surge and that it needs more power than the laptop can supply. We’ve tried different cords, different laptops, even deleted all the programming on the brain and did the factory reset and still the same message. Brand new to Vex, so any advice/ help is welcome

Have you tried plugging in the laptop while you download? Or just downloading to the controller?

Laptop has been plugged in, haven’t tried just downloading straight to the controller yet

That sounds like the USB port on the V5 is damaged. The V5 does not use power from the USB connector (other than part of the “USB is connected” logic).

Try downloading it onto the cotroller. (You do this by either radio connecting the controller into the brain/plugging in the controller to the brain with a smart cable. Then plug in the laptop to the computer with the USB cable. Then download)

I have the same problem of when I try to plug-in my brain to the USB port, it says power surge Error. I’m trying to go through the controller, but it says the brain needs to update through the USB. What do I do now?
