V5 = Actual use of Mecanums?

Im fairly certain a mecanum drive would still use 4 motors so I would just rather make a holonomic drive instead.

…that…that also takes 4 motors…

A few quick corrections, as it seems some recent posts are not sarcasm:

A mecanum drive is a holonomic drive. You might prefer a different type of holonomic drive over the mecanum drive, but you cannot prefer holonomic over mecanum.

No, holonomic drives do not require four motors. A relatively simple example to build would be to put four omniwheels in a tank-style drive with one motor on each side, and then place a fifth omniwheel driven by a single motor under the center of mass of the robot, ideally around a horizontal axle perpendicular to the other axles. Now you have a holonomic drive with three motors.

My bad, I was thinking x-drive instead of holonomic for some reason.

Also, 6 mtr drive with V5 motors would be too fast to control. I was just trying to make the point that just because there might be an 8 motor limit doesn’t mean everyone has to jump to 2 mtr drives.
