Our team has two V5 batteries. One of them can have three green lights, and after >10 minutes of driving / idling while running a program it will turn off and a single battery light will flash red. I’m not sure about the other battery we have. We use a 4 motor HS drive. Is this normal behavior?
You should be getting a bit more than 10 minutes driving from a fully charged battery. I usually overheat motors on my test robot before draining the battery. We have a new version of the V5 firmware update utility, it should be available from the V5 firmware download page in a day or two (V1.0.7). Once it is up you can use a new feature to check the health of the battery, it sounds like you have at least one weak cell as the V5 should be shutting down before getting the single red flashing led.
Thank you for the information. What do I do if both batteries are not ideal? We have competition on saturday.
When you receive your schedule at the beginning of the day you could check which of the teams you are paired with have V5. You could then ask them if they have an extra battery you could borrow during the match, or maybe for the entire day.
If the battery you do have is lasting longer than 5 minutes you should be ok. I say five because sometimes scoring autonomous takes a while.
Well, we have to diagnose to see what the problem may be if any. The diagnostics software was supposed to be live last week, not sure why it’s not up yet. For Saturday, you need to keep batteries on charge as much as possible even if they are good, put them on the charger as soon as you get back to the pits. This chemistry has no memory effect and you can keep topping them off. 10 minutes of driving is more than enough for a match.
