This is a continuation of another thread linked here. I also made that thread but since yesterday the situation has evolved to a point where the original topic doesn’t really relate to the issue anymore, so I’m making this thread to continue it.
In the previous thread, I described issues regarding uploading code to my brain using PROS, as I was new to it. After many tests with different wires and different computers, my team and I think that the issue isn’t anything related to PROS but instead related to the brain. I used two wires, switching them out to see if either worked to make a connection between my brain and my laptop. Both of them didn’t work. I tried connecting my brain to both of my parents’ laptops as well as the family PC to the same result. No combination between the two wires and four different computers yielded a result where the computer could detect the brain. At the same time, the brain was reading its USB connection as ‘unplugged’. We tried every port on each computer. In addition, the two wires I used were my main ones during Tower Takeover. They were very good and always gave me a stable connection (to the same brain).
While reading on the forum to find anything to help this situation, I read that the USB ports on the brain were very fragile and tended to break easily. I tried connecting to my computer using my controller. I had two since my school had three teams, though we don’t have enough people to sustain three teams and have switched to two. I did the same procedure, two cables, four computers, this time with two controllers as well. The same thing happened before. There was nothing connecting.
Nothing has happened to the brain since our last competition and now. The last time it was used was during states. In addition, the only people who have been in our robot room since states in March were our coach, one of my teammates, and myself. At this point we’ve given up on the brain. We’re going to try and get it replaced and I’m gonna take the one off of our third states bot.
The reason I’m writing this thread in the first place though is because of the controllers. Is it normal that if I can’t connect to the brain directly, that I wouldn’t be able to connect via a controller? Do my controllers also need to be replaced or should I not be worried about it?
Thanks for reading this long thing and if you have anything to say I’d greatly appreciate it!
