I was looking through the new Clawbot build instructions and it looks pretty easy. I’m looking at doing a professional development this summer with people who have never used VEX and I’m curious how long it would take for them to finish? Seems like it could be completed in just one day…
Sounds about right. I’m just estimating from looking at the manual online, I don’t have the kit. It’s also curious to notice that they went with the IQ style rubber shaft collars…
I think that at Worlds it would be fun to have a “Speed Building” sideshow competition to generate a little bit of revenue. The prize can be a V5 kit or something.
Then, they could also have a “speed disassemble” competition to clean up afterwards, maybe with a concessions voucher or something as a prize.
A $5-$10 entry fee would be reasonable for those teams who don’t get picked for eliminations or have some extra time.
To add on that, a lot of students who are unfamiliar with vex will strip shaft collar set screws extremely quickly, often leaving shaft collars on the center of 12’’ shafts. I got a bit of extra credit in the class by volunteering to get all of them off. Usually they don’t use the right screwdriver, and their first instinct is to press down a lot harder.
