V5 distance sensor questions?

So I have a few questions about the new V5 distance sensor:

How does it work? What are the specs of it? There is little to nothing under the details tab that I wish could explain on what the sensor is?

Why is the distance measurements in mm when the rest of the Vex everything is in inches?

Well I am going to take an educated guess and say it is in mm for accuracy.

how would converting from inches to metric induce more accuracy…? almost everything everything in vex is measured in imperial, save a few outliers like the 4.6mm delrin spacers
(most importantly, vex fields are in imperial)

The dashboard can be switched between mm and inches, for example.

There are three selectable ranges for each.

VEXcode will allow distance to be returned in the units of your choice.

the sensor is a time of flight sensor using a VerticalCavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL).
max range is around 2000mm, perhaps a bit further, it depends on the amount af ambient light.

Don’t feel like doing the math so can that do from one end of the field to the other side?

You better watch out those units or you risk crashing your clawbot into Mars.
