V5 motor breaking

Our team has been using 2 V5 motors on a cascade lift to a lot of success until recently. One of the motors running on the lift completely seized up - it would not allow any rotation in either direction even when unpowered. Before the entire motor seized up, it started getting “stuck” on a regular interval (where it would be very hard to turn the motor, but still possible). Eventually, it stopped turning altogether. After taking the motor off, we opened it and could smell that some of the components on the PCB had burnt out for some reason. The motors themselves were not under a massive amount of strain.
I tried replacing the motor, but it started to do the same thing as its predecessor.
Does anybody know what to do about this? We have a tournament tomorrow and we don’t know what’s causing the problem.

If it helps, the motors are using the green (1:16?) cartridges and we are using PROS for V5. The first motor that was shipped came at the start of the season (it’s broken beyond repair) and we received the second one about 2 weeks ago.

My team has had this issue in the past. There aren’t any real permanent solutions we could come up with but if you take apart the motor all the way to the internals, you might find something stuck. Either way, removing the internals and putting them back in fixed it for us. It’s a long process so you should do it before a comp so you have some back ups for easy switch out if it happens again.
