So, my team has been getting building ideas from other teams, and I’ve seen a lot of Goliath intakes. Some teams who used to have horizantal Goliaths are switching to vertical Goliaths. Does it depend on your driver and robot, or is it just a preference? (I’m a programmer new to building)
Am I dumb for not knowing what a vertical Goliath (roller) intake looks like?
lol no i’m pretty sure it’s not straight up in the air as vertical implies.
I think @SyntaxErrorPrgrm means a goliath intake with rollers facing forward and backward vs side to side.

Oh, you’re talking about the z or x axis orientation. Vertical and Horizontal are the wrong words.
@SyntaxErrorPrgrm in response to your original question:
Vertical intakes can, in theory, pick up cones without raising, and therefore have the advantages of both claws and rollers. I suppose you don’t have to be so accurate with your lift in the forward-backward axis either.
Horizontal intakes are good if you don’t want to have to be so accurate in the left-right axis.
Either way, it is a matter of preference, but many teams are switching to a “vertical” intake for good reason.
We switch mainly for the reason that you can’t pick up cones well against the edges of the field with side-side rollers (also due to the fact that we had a motor at the end of ours). Front-back rollers allows you to do that much easier.
Main reason just about everyone has switched.
@Baguette123 thank you for clarifying. I didn’t know how to describe it.
Okay, thank you! We have a really good driver, and just want to make it easy on him so he can focused on scoring as much as possible.
Once we drive it more, we will see if we should switch it or not, thank you!
