The manual says that the scoring area starts at the inside of the fence. I take that to mean that the floor area directly beneath the fence is not part of the scoring area and can therefore be touched by the robot. So, for instance, a tank tread could extend under the fence as long as it does not extend beyond the 1 inch width of the fence. Is that interpretation correct? thanks.
Your interpretation is correct. Robots may contact the area directly underneath the fence, however they can not contact any of the area beyond the fence.
