yeah they were 3" red and blue foam cubes from the 2009 game Elevation. I understand wanting to add more games to your selection, but I would suggest adding another year’s game to your arsenal. The cubes were the easiest game objects to damage in recent years, and if this is for a classroom setting, I’m guessing you would want the objects to last for a while.
The 2008 game Bridge Battle used tennis balls for game objects and the other field objects were very easy to build out of plywood and PVC.
The 2010 game Clean Sweep used small foam round balls and foam footballs, however this foam was definitely more durable then the Elevation cubes.
The 2011 game Round Up and 2012 Gateway both used hard plastic game objects for their respective fields, and they were extremely durable.
Sack Attack from last year was pretty good unless you ripped the sacks.
I would start with 2011 and 2012 if you would like the supplies to last a long time. If you are okay with DIY a bit more, 2008 would be great IMO because it was quite some time ago now and it will bring out more unique designs. Also tennis balls are very easy to get your hands on.
Here’s a link to all the past games and their info.
This is the first year we’ve bought a full field. We have 10 LB, 25 BB, and all the hardware to dispose of at the end of this year. This is just a club, not a class. So what does everyone else do with them?
If you’re interested in cheaper alternatives to past VRC games in New Zealand we have something called KiwiChallenge. It’s designed for students new to Vex as an introduction to the main competition. All the game elements are easy to find at local stores (in NZ at least) and cheap too. The games are also quite a bit simpler than the VRC games. If you want more information check it out here.
