Hey guys, I’m trying to figure out which CAD program to use to model my robot any ideas? I’m using a mac if that helps.
Fusion 360 student version.
It’s free although every single one of them is free. Although it stresses your computer quite a bit to run it. Should be fine for you though, it’s a mac so I’m not worried
Not “everyone.” All commercial CAD packages are free to students and educators, so that’s not a good reason either. For a MAC, it’s harder, because the higher-end CAD like Solidworks don’t have MAC version, but take a look at Onshape. More information about CAD software here: CAD for VEX Robotics.pdf (299.7 KB)
Sorry, I just heard everyone talking about it. Maybe it’s just my team, but that’s besides the point. I’m new to the cad game, so thanks for correcting me
Don’t be sorry, but be informed. Look at your long-term life goals as well as short term goals. Knowing multiple CAD packages is a good resume boost for a career. Most of our Juniors and Seniors who get into CAD can use Solidworks and Fusion (btw, they all prefer Solidworks)…but it helps that our community college teaches Solidworks because in the words of the CAD professor “nobody uses Fusion.” (Not quite true, but in the automotive world, pretty true). Onshape is new to the CAD scene, and well worth looking at. In all cases, there will be a learning curve.
Thank you all this helps a lot!
