Vex IQ 5:1 or 4:1 drivetrain?

Hi, my team are looking at changing our drivetrain from a 2 motor drivetrain to a 4 motor drivetrain. The ratios we are looking at are either a 5:1 or 4:1. Which ratio would you guys recommend keeping in mind our robot is quite heavy. Currently it is a 2 motor 3:1.

I would say to use a 2:1 ratio,. We used a 5:2 ratio for our 11 lb robot and it was being bgged down. We switched to a 5:3 but a 2:1 is basically the same and easy to gear!

2:1 is probably best for 2motor. I was goofing off this summer and made a prototype robot this summer with some goofy ideas and it was 4motor drive 4;1 and it had some acceleration issues that i was not very fond of as a driver. i might post some pics or videos of it later.

our current drivetrain has a 3:1 and is much faster than a 2:1 with only 2 motors. Wouldnt having double thew motors allow for a faster drivetrain?

so doubling the motors doenst nessesairly mean faster. it just means that you have more torque so you are probably going to get alot closer to your theoretical max speed and you are going to have way better acceleration.

ok, I understand. Thanks for your help!

2:1 is probably best but we have a 3:1 and its very fast.
