We have several (3 of 10 so far) Gen 1 brains that are reporting the controller firmware needs to be updated. I use the VexOS firmware update program, and the controller gets updated. The team’s program is reloaded and the robot works fine.
Later we get the same error that the controller firmware requires updating. I have updated one controller twice and the team has just reported that it not working again. The only thing different from this season compared to previous is that they are now using Chromebooks to program the robot.
ok, there was no controller update between 2.2.0 and 2.2.1, there was a controller update when we released 2.2.0, but that was two years ago. Mixing a controller and brain that are on mis-matched versions (ie. one on vexos 2.2.x and one on 2.1.x) would show an error message but if everything has been updated you should not see it.
Is this the screen you are seeing ?
If so, does it appear every time the controller and brain connect wirelessly ?
Are they both using smart (blue) radios ?
Is the controller tethered to the brain when you connect to the VEXos Utility ? and then does it in fact show that it needs an update (outline in orange).
Same thing happened to us last night when a (Gen 1) controller was tethered to its Gen 1 brain to try to calibrate the controller. Had to emergency reload the OS, and when connecting the controller with VexOS, it did not show that the controller needed an update.
Had been using that pairing for two weeks prior with no issues at all. I think the OS was 2.2.0 prior to the update, as we hadn’t updated any Gen 1 brains yet.
Version number for controller and smart radio should not have changed in 2.2.1. If someone could post a system report from the VEXos Utility when the issue happens we need to see what versions the Brain and controller are reporting. You can view a system report by tethering the controller to the brain and then connecting the brain to the PC. Once the Utility recognises the brain, you can right click on the image image of the brain and select “System Report”.
