Vex IQ robot arm cannot lift cube

Hello, we just built a bot with an arm that can go up all the way swiftly without load, but it can only lift the cube to about half the height. Battery is fully charged and different motors were tried but the results are the same. What changes should we make? Is there a motor status that can help this? Thank you.

Can you send pictures? Also do you have a gear ratio and if so what is it?

A picture or more information may help us understand your problem.

My assumption is that you are directly connecting the arm to the motor which would not have enough power to lift any weight. Based on that assumption I would suggest you use a gear ratio to increase the power. A small gear connected to the motor that drives a larger gear connected to the arm.

Do a search on gear ratios for photo examples or take a look at this link for a YouTube Video

Have you considered using rubber bands to help the lift? If you look at the last three years of “Herobots” you’ll see that they all use rubber bands to make the motor’s job easier.
