How do you take out tank treads? I built intake for BYTE before and I want to take it out now.
Welcome to the Forum. Going to assume you want to take the flaps out of the treads. Easy way is a two person job. One person holds the tread (maybe use pliers) and the second person grabs the flap at the base (maybe pliers again) and pull towards the end.
I’ve also had some luck with the blue VEX pliers, using the flat end of the handle to push the flap slightly out of the tread and the grab the other side and pull. I don’t recommend using a small flat blade screwdriver because a slip turns the tip of the screwdriver into a stabby-stab implement.
Thanks for the help, but I meant the links, not flaps.
To separate the treads from each other, you slide the flat end of a small screwdriver between the linkage arm of one tread and the pivot of the next link. ( Look at a single tread to see). Twist gently until the linkage arm is free of the pivot nub, then pull apart.
You can practice on a section of the plain chain, it’s easier to see what you are doing.
I would recommend using the flat tool at the end of the VEX IQ plier handles (not sure what they’re called sorry.) Try getting the flat part in between the different chain bits and using a bit of leverage
Think they are called ‘Pin pullers.’
