VEX LEDs

In Slapshot, I understand that you are only allowed 6 motors, but how many LEDs and sensors can you have? (Sorry if I misspelled anything).

On the VEXIQ brain you have 12 ports, so 6 motors leaves you with 6 ports. Fill the other 6 with anything you want / can / will use.

I want to hear back from VIQ teams that say "We need a VIQ port expander because 6 ports is not enough.

(Hey, post back want sensors you used. We built a fire fight robot with 4 drive motors, 1 position motor, 1 air cannon motor, 4 Distance sensors and 2 light/color sensors. ) What did you build

think of it this way, the rules may not say you CAN, but they don’t say you CAN’T, either

I used a color sensor and a distance sensor to assist me in programming the robot and making sure it didn’t clog.

I filled 4 ports with LEDs and I used a 2 motor drive train with a flywheel, a motor for a blue dispenser arm, a rotating platform, and an arm to reach over.( I designed the flywheel to also spin the purple dispenser).

Lol. My kids ended up using all ports last season’s pitching in. 6 motors, 4 light sensors, 1 touch LED, and 1 gyro.

Cheers.

4 Light sensors? Tell me more.

I didn’t use any light sensors, I used touch LEDs and a bunch of colored pieces to make it look like a float.(Or at least that’s what people told me). At around noon I can post a picture or video of how it looks. It is hard to explain without a video/picture.

Sure. My kids used two light sensors for line detection for auto. And two light sensors for a light beam breaking for the catapult arm since the kids found that the bump sensor wasn’t reliable enough and had many false negatives. This year they are using brain V2 so will free up an extra port so they don’t necessarily need a dedicated gyro. Interested to see what they are going to use the extra port for.
:stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers.

Sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to put a video on here. If anyone can help me, feel free to.

So with recent moderation enforcement, that may not be possible. There is a moderator reading this, hopefully they can reach out to you on how to make this happen.

There’s no change in moderation, user probably needs to get to the next trust level, read a few more topics etc.

I figured out that you can put GIFs in and they work. If you want to see the robot in person, we will be at the Dallas regional competition on either March the 2nd or 4th.

Your robot looks very cool. But is there a reason you need that many LED/touch sensors on our robot? 5 seems a lot.

Cheers

There was no real reason for having the LEDs on there, it’s just that I thought our robot was a little bland so I wanted to add them on there. I have 6 people on my team counting me and they were all okay with it and right now I am trying to figure out how to make them fade to and from different colors.
