SPECIAL NOTICE
Due to the recent outbreak of the swine influenza, VEX Robotics has received many inquiries regarding the status of the VEX Robotics Competition World Championship to be held in Dallas this weekend. The event is currently scheduled to be held as planned April 30 – May 2 (please keep checking this site for any status updates).
THE FOLLOWING POLICY IS IN EFFECT WITH RESPECT TO SPECIFIC TEAM PARTICIPATION IN THE EVENT:
In an effort to provide a safe and healthy event environment for all, we believe local government and school officials are best suited to determine the welfare of their students. While ideally all registered teams would be able to participate in the event this weekend, if local authorities determine that a school is to be closed due to the flu epidemic we respectfully require that teams from these schools also withdraw from the event. We cannot allow any such teams to participate. We apologize for the inconvenience this policy may cause, but must take prudent and reasonable steps to protect all participants.
Teams 921A and 921B will not be attending either. Our school isn’t closed, but our Diocese has decided to take the cautious approach. I understand their decision, but feel really bad for our two teams. This has been an unbelievable rookie year for our program, but unfortunately all of the students are seniors and won’t have this opportunity next year.
April 29 (Bloomberg) – Texas Governor Rick Perry declared an emergency and school sports and academic competitions were suspended after a toddler died in a Houston hospital of swine flu, the first confirmed U.S. fatality from the virus.
Four Texas school districts and at least four more individual schools closed in response to reported cases of the disease, affecting 53,000 students. Sixteen swine flu cases in Texas were confirmed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including the 22-month-old boy from Mexico who died after being taken to Houston for care.
Anyone knows is there any changes in the schedule???
Very sorry for all the teams unable to attend. However, Piratech is here (about three blocks from the center) and the locals don’t seem to be worried. We oughta be fine (it’s too late for us anyway).
So…
The lights are on,
the box is locked,
it’s robot fight’n time!!!
We’re sitting comfortably in our room at the West End hotel, but wow.
We can’t begin to imagine having to cancel our trip after our weeks of planning. Sorry to all the teams that can’t make it…
