VEX Servo v.s. 393 Motor

Does anyone know the pros and cons of using a VEX servo and a 393 motor? Does the servo have any advantages over the 393 motor?

At least on a competition bot where your motors are limited, there are far more advantage with a 393 over a servo.

  • 393 has continuous rotation, servo can only move 100 degrees
  • 393 is more powerful
  • 393 has metal internal gears, servo has plastic and you should use a clutch

The only advantage of the servo is that it measures position built in, but you can just use a potentiometer, encoder or IME with a 393. I think I’ve only once seen servos be used on a competition robot, and that was to move a claw.
