Maybe SUMO robots could be used as a platform for developing totally autonomous Vex robots. These would require a Vex Controller programmed in autonomous mode or a combination of a Vex Controller along with one or more microcontrollers (STAMPS, PICS, ARMS, etc.). Since SUMO robots have all the elements of a larger autonomous robots including the ability to sense the environment, follow lines and detect edges (the SUMO arena), obstacle detection, navigation and motion.
