Thanks Very Much For That Answer
honestly, I think this is NOT a good idea. now, the idea of taking points off “meta” bots might superficially seem good, but this is far to difficult to actually quantify. for example, what do they exactly mean by “taking points off”? if its taken literally they might have actually deleted points from those bots in matches. How severe should the punishments be? what do you even define a “meta bot” as? how do they know its copied from the internet? also, what if they took it off the internet but changed it a bunch. also being “meta” doesn’t necessarily mean you copied your whole bot. like I run a ruiguan, but my bot looks nothing like other bots and its got it’s own cad on onshape and everything. would you define that as a “meta” bot? additionally since all this is subjective, if there aren’t strict rules set in place, it could easily be abused to take points off innocent teams ect. honestly, if a team really did copy their bot off the internet, they would get G4ed, not get points taken off. ngl vex forums have generally been calling out “meta” bots these days, which is something I don’t really understand. from what I can see, most teams that pull up to tournaments actually know how their bot works. additionally, teams will eventually build the same design anyway because why build a worse design when u can build the same design as everybody else. in the end, this idea is NOT a good idea and the judges doing this probably aren’t doing it right.
This is not a good idea.
Because what if a Team made their robot pre-season and suddely their bot is “Meta”
exellent, i love how you brought up the issue, this is most deffinatly the awnser i was thinking of
while yes i agree there is a rule in the rule book that says that the teams robot must match the teams skill so i agree that the team needs to know the mechanisms, proccess etc, but most of the teams that had points docked were teams that did not understand the robot that they built, and i mean understand, they couldnt drive nor explain what their bot did.
