Vex Tensile units aka 1/8" nylon rope.

Nylon rope is much cheaper and stronger than using Motor Extention wires.
Comes in a kit with several sizes of pulleys, for moving tensile force around corners. Works well with spring elements such as rubber bands or latex tubing.

What other Competition Legal Vex tensile components exist, in addition to these?
Pneumatic tubing
Zip ties or battery straps
Latex tubing
PWM extention cables
Velcro of various kinds
Vex wheel rubber tires sliced or spiraled
Vex chain, light or heavy (anisotropic bending)

The above is a list of one dimensional (eg string) materials.

Vex (at least competitions) could also use a 2d (eg cloth) material.
Currently we have only:
Metal plates (heavy, non-flexible)
Traction mat (frictiony, not so strong)

Vex rip-stop Nylon would be useful for games like Cleansweep:
12x18" square, hole/melted gromets at 1/2" or 1" intervals for attachment.
Light to Medium weight (much lighter than FRC bumper material for example)
Goal is a smooth sliding and light weight material that can be used for such purposes as:

  • dump basket liner,
  • catapult basket,
  • decorative and protective cover surface
  • light weight wall element
  • air foil or fan-balance or air-reactive surface
  • drag-race parachute
    and other purposes where only tensile strength (not compression) is needed, and where light weight, high strength, and low friction surface is an advantage.

A Plastic Rubber sheet that is strong and flexible and not extremely porus would work well. You can cut it in strips or mold the whole sheet to meet its purpose. If done right you could pheasibely develope a VEX hovercraft, wind sail, or components like a basket or use it when you just need a slick surface.
