I was not expecting for VEX U to come up with a 1 robot vs. 1 robot idea! It will be nice to have a whole side of the field to yourself. However, with hanging the robot, would it be worth it to leave your side of the field unguarded? It would need to be a fast lift if any. Our team is thinking to still include a lift on our robot, but reflect what we do during those last 30 seconds based on what the other team will be doing. Are there any other problems or advantages for having a 1v1 game that you can think of?
One advantage that is not game effecting ,but tournament effecting is that the barrier to entry is now lower and more teams should appear this year in VEXU. It should be a exciting year for VEXU with hopefully large number of new VEXU teams coming into the forefront.
A high lift is 12 points. You should be able to do it in <10 seconds. It’s completely worth it, especially for skills.
Some robots will be able to score multiple stars at a time, at 1 star/second for 10 seconds would make the gap in between the two scores 20 points higher because of descoring. and if those stars were in your far zone and you move them into the opponents far zone than it could be up to 40 points. High lifting isnt always a good thing, I think you should definitely do it depending on the game
I think for VexU, hanging in autonomous is going to be a MUST but in driver control teams will probably stay defending their zone instead of going for a hang.
this is my no.8 vex game year and my first vexu season. I am trying to bring vexu to my university
Very few teams in Nothing but net had a 10 ball in ten second success rate with easy to pick up balls and a relatively easily hit net. Your differential in those last ten seconds will be greater if you hang. Of course, at worlds, you should probably hang in about three seconds anyway.
As I’m sure others have mentioned across the forums, an important part of hanging is the alignment and clear path to reach the hang bar. Even if the lift actuates in less than a second, if you have several stars piled up that you need to move out of the way, lifting soon becomes more trouble than it’s worth.
Also, most people are currently thinking of the us vs. them view, where we are always the one lifting while the opponents are scoring during the lift. It might be interesting to consider the converse: Have your main strategy involve not lifting at the end and instead going for a massive 3-4 star/cube push with lifting as the backup (keep lift in auton though; that will be a game changer).
We can lift in the autonomous period? Or are you just saying for programming and driver skills?
I am very excited for this, because Florida only has about 4 VEX U teams that I know of, including my own that is starting up this year once I graduate from high school. Hopefully this will increase the level of competitiveness in the state!
It’ll be interesting to see if the amount of VEXU teams per school increases by double this year:P
Which college are you going to?
I am going to be attending PHSC, but our team will not be associated directly through it. I will be transferring in two years.
Ah, ok. I was hoping it was closer to Florida Tech so we could have some scrimmage matches or something.
Make sure you contact Mr. Conroy (the region recf rep), since he was really helpful in starting up teams.
