In order to prototype this year’s FIRST competition with VEX robot, I needed to create 2 pairs of 3 inch acetal/delrin wheels. I started with 6 inches of 3 inch diameter Acetal from small parts supply. The machine shop at work fabricated 4 - 3/4 inch wheels with small center hole. At Troy, MI FIRST conference, Team 217, pushed through 1/8 shaft and drilled 4 holes to lighten up the wheels. Later I found that having solid shafts does not promote easy VEX building, so I removed the shafts and inserted 5-32 square tubing into the center to mate with the 1/8 shaft.
Would it make sense for VEX to offer such a new wheel design in a potential new game,
similiar to this year with smooth floor?
