VEX USB Adapter

Is there a way to test the signal strength or integrity of the VEXNet USB adapters?
Is there any stand alone program where I could eliminate the Cortex/Joystick as a variable and plug the adapters into one or more laptops and get a calibrated reading?
I spend too much time swapping adapters and cables.
Several times I have set up a working robot and sorted through all of our adaptors, red tagging the ones that don’t connect. Some that seemed to be good fail latter and some I have red tagged seem to work at a latter date.
What ambients affect the signal; fluorescent lights or networks?
Is there any code that show signal strength on the EasyC print-to-screen or LCD?

I don’t know about calibrated readings, however, the vexnet key is based on the RT73 chipset from Ralink. I have used it under windows XP using the Tenda drivers and utilities available here.. The product is a W541U USB adapter.

There are also a number of utilities available for Linux that support the RT73 chipset and may give you statistical data.
