I know there are many discussions and options about ways of raising the fields for VexIQ, but does anyone have pictures of how RECF actually does it at Worlds? Any pictures with the fields off and curtains pulled back from Dallas?
I remembered that there was a brief discussion on this a few years back, and Paul posted CAD files of the risers. They are custom designed, and produced at our in-house metal facility specifically for this need.
The Risers are made out of steel (so very heavy), and are assembled by interlocking tabs / flanges, so no tools required. They also condense pretty nicely, as all the riser stands and connection beams fit nicely into the base plates when it’s time to tear them down.
The files he posted are for a VRC set-up, but can easily be converted to IQ by removing a few parts. I don’t have any actual images of the risers, but put a couple of quick renders together so even if you don’t have access to CAD software, you can get an idea of what they look like.
If you need any other angles or close-ups, just let me know.
I’ll add that the risers for both VRC and VIQC at worlds are designed to setup and breakdown very quickly, as is needed for such an event. These would not be ideal for most team practice situations.
If you are looking to purchase risers, I highly recommend those from Wenger. Wenger makes choral risers and band stands among other things. My venue has 4’x6’ sections that can be configured in groups of 6 for VRC, and 2 for VIQC. (1 also nicely fits a Go field.) The removable legs can be purchased in a number of lengths that allow us to get the appropriate height for each competition level.
There are also a number of posts on build your own risers here on the forum. At the end of the day, I know many IQ teams that have gotten away with a sheet of plywood on top of a bunch of milk crates as a very cheap and sturdy alternative.
